Numb3rs Colby Train
"Yeah, so, what does it tell us?"

"Nothing. Nothing we don't already know in our hearts."

I still can't get over that bit from the Numb3rs episode "Trust Metric." The episode was on Global last night, so of course I watched it. I don't know how many times I've seen the episode now, but it's always that part that makes me fall in love with the show all over again. I think it's jut the pure beauty of it. It's a such a simple, very understated and moving character moment. Actually, it's one of the things I love about the show. It may be a "crime drama" and they may show a lot of gory images from time to time, but it always comes back to the characters, to the "families" that they've all formed. The show is character driven, not plot driven. Sure, the plots, the cases, play a huge part in the show because of the math, but on top of it all is how the characters react to the cases and the situations theses cases put them in.

I've been seeing something similar as I watch my way through season 3 of Doctor Who. There are moments, sometimes they're a if you blink you'll miss them thing, but they're there, where you see the impact of past actions on the Doctor. Mainly, the impact of losing Rose. Even 5 episodes after the fact the lack of her presence is still felt so strongly. Like in "Dalek's in Manhattan" when the Doctor says ""They always survive, while I lose everything." I know he's talking about so much more than just losing Rose, but she's still a part of it. She's still there resonating in the back of his mind, coloring all of his actions and the way he sees the world. It's great!

When I think about it, it makes me worry for SGA. Especially when I think about it in terms of everything that's happened with Weir and Beckett. They did a great job at the end of "Sunday" with the characters emotions but that seemed to be it. The mourning for Beckett didn't really go any further than the end of that episode and a brief mention in "First Strike." Mind, they've been doing a bit more "mentioning" with Beckett lately, but I don't know that it's enough. They might as well have kept the character there and let him give the lines about the things he'd done. At the same time though, I must give TPTB that s4 has had a lot more character moments in it. At the same time though it's not like the other shows ... Good, but not great.

Oh well ... we'll see how the second half of the season goes. "The Kindered" is coming up soon and I have very high hopes for that episode.

Cheers!
