You know, Carson only getting 5 episodes isn't such a bad hand.
I was torn between anger and happiness yesterday when I read that he was only come back for five episodes. The more I think about it though, the more I tend toward happiness. Other than the obvious plus that he's back, I think it's a real opportunity for tptb to give him something really gritty to deal with. Instead of trying to shove him into 8 or more episodes where he just might not fit, he's been given five episodes where hopefully he can be part of the forefront and really flourish.
We don't know what his situation really is yet, and we won't until Kindered airs. We can definitely speculate from what we know of spoilers, but nothing is really out there until those episodes air. Once they do, I think we might have a better idea how Carson will fit back into the scheme of Atlantis. He can't just take up his old position like nothing happened. There have to be some kind of repercussions of what's happened to him. I don't think it would be at all plausible, however much I might wish it, for him to just jump back into Atlantis as the CMO like nothing happened. There's got to be some new way that he'll find his new niche in the city. Which may end up drastically changing the way he relates to the other characters.
I guess it really is just wait and see and withhold judgment until the 5 episodes have aired.
Maybe it's a bit of wishful thinking on my part, I don't know. But I really think that in the end the five episodes could end up being better for the character, especially if they are well written, character driven pieces, rather than just episodes that the character is stuffed into.
Cheers!

So much for the big press release.
I don't even know what to think. I'm happy that Paul is going to be back for season five. Though, I'm not happy about the number of episodes he's getting. Sure, it's 3 more than we got this season, but it's 8 less than we've had in previous seasons. I'm not sure what to think about it. I'm going to have reserve my full judgment until I see the episodes he's in. If they're simply bit parts in the episode I'm not going to be happy. The least tptb could do would be go give him something substantial to do to. We shall see.
Than there's Michael Shanks guesting in a couple of episodes. I have nothing against MS, it's just what is with TPTB? Why do they think it necessary to inject SG1 into Atlantis? Atlantis is it's own compelling show. IMO there's no need to push SG1 and it's characters into a show that clearly works without them. I love Atlantis because it's Atlantis and not SG1. Just like I enjoy SG1 because it is it's own show and not Atlantis.
As for Woolsey, I'm not sure how to feel about things. I love love love Robert Picardo. I've loved him since the first episode of Voyager. He's a great actor and I have no doubt that he'll bring all of his superb talents to the table. The thing is, I question the idea that Woolsey would be put in charge of Atlantis. Woolsey in charge of Sheppard? Sheppard taking orders from Woolsey? There's something that just seems fundamentally wrong with that picture. Again, we shall see I guess.
The whole thing is very perplexing. I'm torn between a huge squeeing fit and throwing something at this crazy release.
Well ...
Cheers!
