Annoyed & Don't Know Why

I'm annoyed.

I'm not really sure why, just am.

Perhaps it has to do with the lack of any good tv tonight. Though, I'm pretty sure that's not it. It's more of just an excuse to be annoyed.

It might be the fact that on the nights that do have good television, everything is on at the exact same time. What the heck is up with that? Maybe I just enjoy too many shows, and should pick a select few. How boring is that?

Perhaps it has nothing to do with tv at all. I don't know.

I miss Atlantis. Friday nights aren't the same knowing that new episodes will never come around again.

Numb3rs is still great on Friday, don't get me wrong. Friday just isn't Friday without brand new "Stargate." Then again, if our stupid local channels continue to have "technical difficulties" during prime time I may not be watching much anymore.

Ok, well, that's enough of this whiny post.

Hopefully I'll be back later with something a little more exciting/cheerful.

Cheers

Grey's Anatomy and a Little Atlantis Hope

Just Atlantis
I'm completely loving that all of my shows are back in swing. I'm still waiting for Numb3rs, but other than that I've been fairly impressed by what I've see so far.

Last night was Grey's Anatomy. There were of course a few things that annoyed me, but for the most part I enjoyed the show. Mostly because of the entrance of one Kevin McKidd (Rome, Journeyman). His character seemed to inject a new life into the cast, especially into Christina, but it bleed through into Callie and finally Sheppard and Bailey. It was phenomenal! I don't know how long he's signed on for, but hopefully it's going to be a while.

That's about it. Well, except for new Atlantis tonight. I haven't read much about the episode so I don't know which way I'm leaning on this. My hope is that I'll have something to write about tonight or tomorrow. We shall see.

Cheers!

Getting Back to LJ & Some Atlantis Talk

So, I've been having a lot of trouble keeping up with all of the things I used to do before I moved. I can't seem to get into a regular routine. Every time I think  I've got things worked out something throws a wrench in my plans to keep things going. I've said this before but hopefully I can start things up again.

I've been watching Atlantis this season but I haven't really been inspired to write much about it. There are definitely some art projects that I'd like to do with some screencaps, but other than that ... I've really got nothing. It's been an ok season so far, imho. It has been entertaing but nothing to write home about. I'm annoyed by the Keller/McKay/Ronon love triangle thing. Someone is going to get hurt in this (most likely McKay) and it's going to mess up the dynamic, which I'm not looking forward to at all.

Anyway, hopefully I'll have more to write or post tomorrow ...

Cheers!

Atlantis and Other Ramblings

I can't believe it's been so long since I updated in here. Actually, it's been a long time since I've done a lot of things that I used to love to do. It's really strange trying to get into a new routine. Just when I think I've got things set up in such a way that I'll be able to keep up with things it turns out I'm sadly mistaken. Oh well. Hopefully I'll get tehre sooner rather than later.

At least there's Atlantis. I've really been enjoying this season. The Deadealus Variations was different. There were some really interesting parts, but the end kind of bothered me. Let's just go backwards? Sure, if you say so. I'll be interested to see if anything comes out of the episode. I'm still shying away from spoilers so I have no idea what's coming up. Though, I am considering going on a spoiler hunt. We shall see.

And Broken Ties! I absoltuely loved that episode. Especially the end with Ronon's detox. Heavy stuff. I kind of wish they'd let him get rid of the dreads. It would've been interesting to see that transition. Oh well.

Cheers!

Atlantis Returns

Atlantis is Back!!

I know I've already seen it, but woo hooo! Actually it's nice this second time around especially  watching it in HD. Though, not even the HD can rectify the hookie crazy transition from the bunker to Michael's hive ship. I also have to mention that the music they used during the transition is even worse the second time around.

Oh wow. The zoom into the city after the opening credits looks amazing in HD. They've really perfected the look of the city.

Anyway, here's to the start of a great SGA season!!

Cheers!

Rant: Killing Characters

  • Jun. 8th, 2008 at 4:21 PM
Carson Heart
I'm seriously getting sick of good characters dying.

I'm doubly sick of the "we're going to shake things up" and "no one is safe" attitudes. I want my characters to be safe. I want to know that I can tune into show "A" and be guaranteed to see my favorite characters "B" and "C." It's one of the few simple joys a television addict such as myself has. I don't want to have to get used to a new character, or new characters every other season. I want the ones I started with, the ones I initially fell in love with, to stick with me through the entire show!

IMO, if you have to get rid of a character, for whatever reason (I totally understand that sometimes actors want out), killing him/her/it  to get rid of them is the easy way out. I definitely think there are more creative, more enjoyable and/or suspenseful ways of "offing" a character. Come up with something new and exciting. We've seen main characters die over and over again. Please, let's try to come up with something new and refreshing. Let's find some better way of doing things! Please, for the love of television!

Take Law&Order: SVU for example. They lost two main characters at the end of this past season and neither one of them died. Now, both of their story lines were rich and suspenseful and again there was no death involved! Or consider Numb3rs, they recently had a character leave and she didn't die. Sure, her storyline/ending was a little less dramatic, but only at the end when it came. They built tensions into her interactions long before her final curtain to create suspense and drama in the show. It was, and is, rather refreshing. Heck, Law&Order even recently "offed" a character in a very gripping story without killing him. It can be done. So, come on PTB, let's get a little more creative shall we!

Anyway, I'm all fired up about this because I finally got to see the series 2 finale of Torchwood. I know I'm way behind, and I did have a little bit of an idea of what was going to happen, but I didn't think it was going to be as massive as it was. It's not only Torchwood though. Sure, watching the finale brought it all back up again, but there are so many of my favorite shows that have done this same kind of thing in the last couple of seasons. Enough of them have done it that it's starting to really irk me. There's Atlantis, Robin Hood, Torchwood, Prison Break, The L Word did it, and even Criminal Minds seems to have set up their finale with the death of a character though an exploding car. I'm not sure how that one is going to pan out, but it all seems to fit the same pattern.

I'm seriously getting sick of losing my favorite characters. I know, in many cases there are reasons that don't involve the quality of the show but instead deal with actors and contracts. Fine, if an actor wants out, let him or her out. Even so, if character departures have to happen I'd really like to see shows steer clear of killing characters. If an actor wants to leave, fine so be it, but can we please not kill their character? On the other hand, if an actor doesn't want to leave and is happy in their post, can we please find a better way of filling the show with suspense? Can we please steer away from killing characters for entertainment value?

I know there are holes all over my argument, and I know that sometimes to tell an amazing story it's necessary to kill good characters. I know all of it, I'm just sick of it!

Cheers!

Summer TV: The Mole, Atlantis, Big Brother

  • Jun. 3rd, 2008 at 3:36 PM

So, The Mole was pretty good last night. I'm excited to see how the rest of the season plays out. They've left a lot of things in that I wasn't sure they would and they've updated just enough to take it up a level. It's still The Mole, but revamped. Very good stuff, and I've already got my favorites and those I love to hate. :D It's going to be a great season!

It's definitely going to be a great summer of television viewing! With both Atlantis and Big Brother starting in July (within a few days of each other) things are looking good.

Woo hooo!

Speaking of summer television ... I'm so excited for Atlantis. I've decided (for the first couple of episodes, at least) that I'm going to try my very best to stay completely spoiler free. It's crazy tough, but I'm doing it. I may end up giving in and reading up on everything after the first couple of episodes, but so far I know next to nothing about what's coming up. It's strange, especially after the way I fed on spoilers last year. Eeeek, I can't wait. Here's to hoping I don't break and look at the spoilers.

Cheers!

Random Ramblings

It snowed! I can't believe it's already snowed. That's crazy. I love the snow, but I really don't think that this sprinkling is going to last very long. It's nice to see though .... Maybe that means that it's ok to be listening to my Christmas carols already .... hehe ;)

Anyway, back to stuff about television ... Actually, I'm not really sure what to say on that front. I'm enjoying the current seasons of all the shows I watch. Though, I'm not sure if there is anything overly stand-out. Maybe Prison Break, but it's typical of that show to keep me on the edge of my seat. So, nothing new. Though, I'm not looking foward to the time when the writers strike kicks into affect and the network suits start jambing the airwaves with more reality tv. Yuck. I love "The Amazing Race" (which just started on sunday, yay!!), but that's about it on that front.

I guess then, that the biggest thing I have to talk about is that I'm still enjoying my love/hate relationship with Atlantis. I'm waiting it out, especially for "Kindered," but the episodes seem to either be really awesome, or just "meh." Sometimes it's like the show just can't decide what it wants to be, or which characters it wants to focus on and how it wants to focus on them. I guess we'll see what happens with "Missing " on Friday, but I have to say that I'm not really looking forward to the episode. It doesn't really jump out at me and say this is going to be one heck of a great episode. Though, who knows, it could surprise me. I do really like Teyla and it will be nice to see her as something more than wall decor.

*shrugs* We'll see.

To Ship or Not To Ship in Atlantis

  • Oct. 9th, 2007 at 1:11 PM

If someone was to ask me flat out which Atlantis characters I shipped, my gut reaction first response answer would be Ronon&Teyla and Sheppard&Weir. Those two pairings just seem extremely natural to me, and I think the actors who portray them have a certain amount of chemistry between them. But, after watching 3 of the first few episodes of season 4, I'm starting to wonder if shipping is worth it when it comes to Atlantis ...

Cut For Spoilers. Beware of Spoilers for Atlantis eps. "Adrift," "Lifeline" and "Doppelganger"

Caution: Possible Spoilers for Atlantis 4.02 "Lifeline"

I can see it already. It's going to be a bumpy season for Atlantis and I.

After just two episodes, I'm more than sure that I'm going to love and hate the new episodes all at the same time. I say this because I just watched Lifeline and OH MY GOODNESS! Amazing episode!  There were some really great shots of the city (even if they were of the "replicator" city), some great character moments and a whole lot of action and drama. It was classic Atlantis stuff. The kind of Atlantis goodness that made me fall in love with the show in the first place. Classic.

So what about the hate part? I have one word for that, or rather one name for that: Weir. I absolutely loved her character in this episode. She was written and acted so well. I've always liked Weir, and thought she was a fascinating character, but in this episode there was something more about her. TH is an amazing actress and was always outstanding, but in this episode she really made Weir pop. It was absolutely thrilling to watch.

About now you're probably wondering how this applies to the hate side of things? Well, I find it so incredibly frustrating that we're losing this amazingly strong female character. Especially in the way that it's happening. Why couldn't we have the kind of Weir we got in Lifeline all the time? Why must TPTB write these amazing scenes and brilliant send off pieces for a one time shot? Why can't they keep that kind of character writing up all through the season?! I don't want to go to a place of blaming any other persons and/or characaters but ... AHHHHHH .... it just makes me want to scream.

They did it to Ford too, with the enzyme. I think that storyline could have played out so well on the screen. Can you imagine how much more tension could have been created between Ford and the team? Especially with JM as Ronon.  The kind of drama that could have ensued? I know we got a little bit of that, but not nearly enough. Instead of using that potential, they gave him the same 4 episodes that they're giving Weir/TH and he was gone! Never heard from again. It's infuriating. Especially after the kind of potential they've just given to the character. She's now got an amazing amount of potential to bring to the screen. Everything from drama to chaos to relief, and yet here she goes down the Ford path. It frustrates me to no end and I end up hating the episode for it.

But I can't hate it, because I loved it. Yet, I can't love it because of what they're doing. Grrrrrr.

Anyway, I'll probably be back with more thoughts on the episode, but for now I really had to get that off my chest!

Cheers!

Team Video

I'm working on getting all of my videos up and onto photobucket. :) It seems to be working out well.

In the meantime, I thought I'd post up another one of my old videos. This time a quick team video, set to the theme from the t.v. show Cheers. Actually, speaking of videos set to other/old tv songs/themes, I'm thinking of doing a Ronon (or McKay, not sure which) video set to the theme from Mighty Mouse (listen here). Am I crazy, or will this actually fit and make an ok vid? Also, does anyone have any other suggestions/ideas for tv theme songs to do team/individual vids to?

Anyway ... without further ado, the video ...

Title: Where Everybody Knows Your Name
Song: Where Everbody Knows Your Name - The Theme from Cheers
Pairing: Atlantis Team Video
Spoilers: Clips through First Strike. Possible spoilers for Tao of Rodney, Irresistible, Sunday, Sateda, Return pt1, Phantoms (Though very very very mild IMO)
